What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Embedded Software Engineer position at Fermat Software?
Fermat is seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer to join our experienced consulting team and lead the embedded software effort on a client project in the sensing-semiconductor space. The work centers on firmware for high-performance capacitive multi-touch controller silicon.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will own firmware architecture, guide fellow engineers, and serve as a primary technical point of contact with the client. No H-1Bs for this role. Candidates must be in the USA. No agency/C2C.
The role is on-site at the client location in Austin, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Lead firmware architecture and design for real-time sensing and touch-controller applications; author and own SW architecture and design documents, seeking feedback and approval from peers and client.
- Hands-on C and C development, including unit and functional test - this remains a deeply technical role.
- Develop and optimize low-level drivers and real-time data-acquisition firmware interfacing with mixed-signal sensing hardware (ADC/AFE/DSP subsystems).
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship; review code and designs and set engineering standards.
- Review and refine requirements; translate them into robust firmware designs.
- Drive the Agile process including sprint planning, daily standups, and demonstrations.
- Provide inputs into planning; communicate status, risks, and impediments in a timely manner; track time expended on the project.
- Collaborate closely with the client and their representatives across all aspects of the project.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer or Software Engineering with at least 10 years of experience in the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of embedded systems, with strong hands-on C and C .
- Demonstrated technical leadership - owning firmware architecture and mentoring engineers.
- Real-time firmware development on ARM.
- Experience developing firmware for mixed-signal / sensing devices; comfort working alongside ADC, AFE, and DSP subsystems and signal-processing concepts.
- Low-level driver development and hardware/firmware bring-up.
- High-speed host communication interfaces: I2C, SPI/QSPI, UART.
- Familiarity with capacitive touch / HMI sensing systems a strong plus.
- Firmware security experience a plus
