We are looking for an experienced PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR to join our team at FERGUSON BOX!

About the Role

The PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the facility’s FLEXO folder gluer converting machines. 

  • Bobst Specialty Folder Gluer
  • McKinley Flexo Folder Gluer (Jumbo, 66”)
  • Martin Flexo Folder Gluer (50”)
  • McKinley Flexo Folder Gluer (Mini, 24”)

This role coordinates machine operators and assistant operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production of corrugated boxes. The PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR monitors production flow, supports machine setups and troubleshooting, ensures compliance with quality standards, and communicates operational priorities with Plant Management and other departments.

Job Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations of the FLEXO folder gluer department, including up to three converting machines.
  • Coordinate activities of machine operators, assistant operators, stackers, and support personnel.
  • Assign production jobs and monitor workflow to ensure machines operate efficiently and production schedules are met.
  • Verify machine setups match job specifications, including print plates, die cutting sections, slotting, folding, and gluing configurations.
  • Monitor production for quality, including print registration, slotting accuracy, glue application, and finished box dimensions.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, such as feeding problems, print quality concerns, die cutting performance, or glue application issues.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to address equipment malfunctions and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and coordinate breaks to maintain continuous production flow.
  • Communicate production priorities, job changes, and operational updates to machine crews.
  • Verify completion of production reports, downtime documentation, and quality records.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards around machines, conveyors, and work areas.
  • Assist operators with setups, changeovers, and adjustments when needed to maintain efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly with Plant Management regarding production performance, staffing needs, and operational challenges.

Quality Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all corrugated products meet customer specifications and Company quality standards.
  • Monitor print quality, registration, scoring accuracy, slotting alignment, and glue application.
  • Identify and correct quality defects before products proceed to downstream processes.
  • Coordinate with quality control personnel to address recurring production issues.
  • Promote quality awareness among machine crews.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Enforce compliance with all Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure operators follow machine guarding requirements and proper operating procedures.
  • Monitor safe operation of conveyors, feeders, slotting sections, die cutters, folding units, and glue systems.
  • Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are followed when maintenance or jam clearing is required.
  • Maintain clear access to emergency stops and egress pathways.

  2. Technical Knowledge of FLEXO Converting Equipment – Demonstrates working knowledge of corrugated converting processes including printing, slotting, die cutting, folding, and gluing.

  4. Quality Awareness – Maintains strict adherence to job specifications and production quality standards.
  5. Communication Skills – Clearly communicates job expectations, production priorities, and operational updates to crews and management.
  6. Organization and Workflow Coordination – Effectively manages multiple machines and production crews simultaneously.
  7. Dependability and Accountability – Maintains reliable attendance and ensures crews remain productive and focused on production goals.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience in corrugated converting operations required.
  • Previous experience operating FLEXO folder gluer machines required.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in manufacturing required.
  • Strong understanding of corrugated box manufacturing processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of FLEXO printing, die cutting, folding, and gluing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets, specifications, and production schedules.
  • Ability to coordinate production flow between multiple machines and crews.
  • Ability to identify and resolve operational or mechanical issues quickly.
  • Ability to train and mentor operators and assistants.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing around large converting machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (plates, dies, materials, or tools).
  • Manual dexterity required for machine adjustments and inspections.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and repetitive motion.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, corrugated materials, and moving equipment.
  • Work around large converting machinery, conveyors, forklifts, and palletizing systems.
  • Facility is not fully climate controlled; temperatures may vary with outdoor conditions.
