Role Summary
The Manager of Maintenance and Facilities is responsible for the routine operations and strategic coordination of the district’s maintenance and facilities division. Reporting to the Director of Operations and Maintenance, you supervise a diverse team, manage preventive maintenance programs, and oversee facility improvement projects. You serve as a key responder to operational needs and emergencies, ensuring our schools remain safe, clean, and well-maintained environments for learning and work.
Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)
- The Strategic Leader: You bring at least five (5) years of experience in maintenance, facilities, or building systems management.
- Proven Management: Prior supervisory or management experience is required. K-12 school district experience is highly preferred.
- Educationally Prepared: High school diploma or GED required. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Technical Authority: Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and roofing systems.
- Safety Mindset: Deep understanding of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
- Certifications: A valid driver’s license is required. Trade certifications (HVAC, electrical, etc.) and OSHA or facilities management certifications are preferred.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
- Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations for all district buildings and grounds, including hiring, training, and evaluating maintenance personnel.
- Facility Stewardship: Coordinate and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure all facilities remain operational and safe.
- Project Oversight: Manage facility improvement projects and repairs, including coordinating with vendors and contractors.
- Safety & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and lead regular facility audits to identify and resolve health and safety concerns.
- Emergency Strategy: Respond to facility emergencies on a 24/7/365 on-call basis, including coordinating weather-related operations like snow and ice removal.
- Fiscal Accountability: Assist in developing and monitoring the maintenance budget, recommending cost-saving strategies and managing inventory.
- Event Support: Ensure facilities are appropriately prepared for district events, extracurricular activities, and community use.
