What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Support Specialist (2023-2024) - Elementary/Middle School position at Ferguson-Florissant School District?
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
This position was created to embed a specific building level substitute teacher within a single district building for the duration of a school year. The Building Support Specialist will report to the same school each day and check in with administrative staff to receive short- and long-term assignments. The Building Support Specialist will also act as the building-level liaison for all other substitute teachers who report to the same district building and will welcome, educate, and guide those substitute teachers through building-specific information needed to be successful.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve in the absence of the certified teacher at a location assigned by the District.
- Effectively manage a classroom of students by keeping them on task and engaged.
- Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
- Follow lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher.
- Supervise and ensure safety of students during classroom hours.
- Maintain a positive learning environment and build rapport with students and staff.
- Leave feedback and notes for the regular classroom teacher.
- Build positive rapport with staff and students.
- Grade assignments as required.
- Perform duties as assigned by the principal/assistant principal/department chair.
- Implement student accommodations as required.
- Be familiar with and execute as necessary building emergency procedures.
- Assist with non-classroom duties when assigned and perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to teach day to day assignments or longer term positions such as maternity leave or long term illness

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education-issued substitute certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
- Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
