SUMMARY – The piano accompanist will assist the classroom teacher by playing piano for rehearsals, auditions and performances. The piano accompanist is jointly supervised by the classroom teacher and the building administrator. In all instances the piano accompanist will maintain necessary confidentiality regarding each individual student.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists the student(s) in our Lewistown Public Schools music ensembles to reach their best potential through musical accompaniment.
  • Hears the student(s) in recitation, music literacy, and other curriculum tasks, guiding and helping them, but not teaching them.
  • Under supervision of the teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher and becomes familiar with the grade/level curriculum.
  • Interprets and follows the teacher's lesson plans.
  • Accompanies the student(s) and teacher(s) to whom assigned for District Music Festival and State

 

Music Festival.

  • Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned such as piano maintenance and returning sheet music in excellent condition.
  • Assists in classroom management duties as assigned such as becoming familiar and functional with classroom and building Assertive Discipline plans, Emergency procedures, in-class and out-of- class activities, and room decor.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with staff, supervisors, students, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or the building administrator.

 

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Associates degree preferred, but must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

  

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS - The work environment has increasingly become technology driven. School District #1 expects staff to meet reasonable expectations in the use of computers and other technology, in and out of the classroom.

 

REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE – Screening tests for alcohol and illegal drug use may be required before hiring and during your employment in School District #1. Employees of Lewistown School District #1 must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check. Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
