What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fence Installation Manager (Part Time) position at Fence Boys?
Installation Manager (Fence Installation)
Fence Boys LLC — Columbus, OH
Pay: $25 an hour, 15–30 hours a week. Part-time, with room to grow as we do.
About Fence Boys
Fence Boys is a residential fence company in the Columbus area known for high-quality wood, vinyl and aluminum installs, and a 4.9-star Google rating. We run on our own software, which streamlines material breakdowns, supplier orders and scheduling, so our team spends its time on judgment and quality instead of paperwork. We're growing fast and plan to handle two to three times our current install volume by next spring.
About the Role
- The Installation Manager owns every sold install from deposit to finished fence, across every crew doing the work. You'll decide which crew goes where, what's ready, what's late and what's short, and make sure every fence is built right and every customer knows what's happening. We are willing to train the right candidate with great customer service or management background and organization skills.
- This is a management role, not an installer role. You'll be on job sites for quality control and training, but your time goes to running the work, not building fences. Y ou'll report to our Chief Operations Officer and work alongside our Director of Sales, our Operations Manager and our subcontracted install crews.
What You'll Do
Schedule and crews
- Own the install schedule across multiple subcontracted crews, matching each job to the crew best suited for it.
- Keep lead time on target by moving work between crews when one falls behind.
- Dispatch labor where it's needed each day, and bring in backup crews when the schedule calls for it.
- Materials and suppliers
- Review and approve the material takeoffs our software builds from each job drawing, checking with sales or the crew lead when needed.
- Be the main contact for our supplier reps: approve orders, review replies, and handle corrections before final ordering.
- Track order status across every project, and catch wrong or short orders and deliveries that don't line up with installs.
Quality and training
- Walk job sites, set the standard, and own the punch list.
- Hold crews new to us to Fence Boys quality.
Customers
- Be the point of escalation for customers after the sale, working with our Operations Manager.
- Make sure customers hear about any schedule change before the day.
Inventory and equipment
- Own stocking and inventory across our storage units: decide which products we keep in stock based on upcoming jobs, track what's on hand, and reorder before we run short.
- Keep track of company equipment and get it serviced when needed, including a min skid-steer and a hydraulic post driver.
How Success Is Measured
- Every sold job has an install date, and every date holds.
- Lead time stays at 4–6 weeks, and never more than 8.
- Materials are on site a day before install, and no job starts short.
- The right products are in stock for upcoming jobs, and inventory counts stay accurate.
- Every fence meets our quality standard.
- The schedule and job status stay current in our software, the day things change.
What You Bring
- Experience leading or coordinating crews.
- Strong organization and follow-through across many jobs at once.
- Clear, professional communication with customers, crews and suppliers.
- Comfort using software and a phone app to manage schedules and orders.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license, and availability to be on job sites around the Columbus area.
- A plus: mechanical skills to maintain equipment like a compact loader and a hydraulic post driver.
- A plus: construction or fence installation experience, so you know what a job takes and what good looks like.
Why Join Us
- A management role off the tools, with the software doing the busywork. Room to grow with the company: as Fence Boys expands into new markets, this role will oversee installers there.
