As a Registered Nurse (RN) working in Feminist Women’s Health Center, you will play a crucial role in providing compassionate and comprehensive healthcare services to patients seeking reproductive healthcare options. This position requires a skilled and empathetic nurse who is committed to upholding the highest standards of patient care and promoting reproductive rights.

 

Essential Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following areas. Other duties may be assigned.


• Performs pre-operative assessment, including reviewing the client’s medical history, listening to heart and lungs, and inserting I.V.
• Reports any complications to the Clinic Director, Nurse Supervisor & attending physician and responds to emergencies per FWHC policy and procedures.
• Maintains the crash cart and emergency supplies.
• Prepares aftercare room to receive clients, being sure ample supplies are available, emergency equipment is available, and functioning properly. Monitors post-operative / post-anesthesia clients until discharge and remains until the last client is discharged.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and legible records of nursing observations and nursing care and reviews clients' charts prior to discharge to ensure completion.
• Assists in maintaining good clinic flow.
• Takes patient calls regarding lab results and post-abortion concerns. Communicate with the Clinic Administrator and MD to provide appropriate follow-up care.
• Lists drugs and supplies when needed on the order list. Takes responsibility for signing in new drugs and signing out narcotics with another RN or a manager, making sure the count is correct.
• Maintains confidentiality of all client & clinic-related information consistent with HIPAA and FWHC policies.
• Rotates responsibility for the “on-call” cell phone and the RN “night call”.
• Ensures with a high level of consciousness and constant vigilance that each client receives the quality health care needed within the scope of clinic services and FWHC policies, procedures, and guidelines, and ensuring that necessary safety precautions are taken.
• Is a role model for peers and actively promotes professional growth by sharing knowledge, participating in conferences, and teaching new hires.
• Works effectively with clinic staff and physicians; possessing tact, discretion, diplomacy & professionalism.


Patient Assessment and Care:


• Conduct thorough assessments of patients' medical histories, physical conditions, and emotional needs.
• Provide education and counseling to patients about abortion procedures, contraception options, and post-procedure care.
• Administer medications,  perform medical procedures,  and assist physicians during abortion procedures.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the process.
• Offer emotional support and compassionate care to patients during their stay at the clinic.

 

Clinical Support:


• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans and ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records,  documenting all assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
• Assist with patient follow-up, providing post-procedure instructions, and addressing any concerns or complications.
• Provide patient education regarding contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and reproductive health.

 

Compliance and Safety:


• Adhere to all applicable legal, ethical, and professional guidelines, including state and federal laws pertaining to abortion services.
• Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, following infection control protocols and ensuring proper disposal of medical waste.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Stay updated on the latest research,  medical advancements,  and evidence-based practices related to abortion care.

 

Collaborative Teamwork:


• Collaborate with physicians, counselors, and other healthcare professionals to create a supportive and inclusive work environment.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
• Foster a non-judgmental and compassionate atmosphere that respects patients' rights and choices.

Experience, Education, Skills, and Abilities Required:

 

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current licensure in the state of Georgia
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in clinical skills, procedures, and equipment pertinent to the practice of GYN/Abortion care. Transgender-friendly is required.
• Commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice is required.
• Upbeat, positive, personable, and the ability to relate well with diverse people and age groups is required.
• Assumes the responsibility of annual CPR certification as mandated by FWHC’s policy.
• Ability to remain on feet for long hours and physically lift to transfer patients.
• Ability to provide care and information in a supportive, respectful, and non-judgmental manner.
• Flexibility in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing tasks under pressure, and working in different areas.
• Ability to take direction, follow directions, and make judgment decisions within the scope of the assigned task.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required.
• Working knowledge of all applicable local,  state,  and federal regulations and  NAF (National Abortion Federation) standards of care.
• Computer literacy: Competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and NextGen.

While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit, use their hands, and talk or listen. The person in this position must regularly stand, walk, or move and reach and grip items relatively far away. They must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

• Currently, this position calls for the Registered nurse to work on-site/in the clinic. Must be able to participate in online virtual communications, including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing.
• Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners.
• This position is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, phone, and in person.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
