What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geographic Information System Specialist position at Felt?
About the role
Felt's customers range from solo GIS analysts to enterprise teams shipping spatial tools across their organizations. As our GIS Systems Specialist, you'll be the person who helps them get unstuck, stay productive, and get the most out of Felt.
You'll dig into customer issues, write code to automate the support workflow, and use data to spot patterns before they become problems. If you're a GIS person who loves to build things and genuinely enjoys helping people, this role was made for you.
What you'll do
- Triage, diagnose, and resolve customer issues quickly and clearly
- Debug technical problems across Felt's platform: data rendering, styling, integrations, and more
- Write Python and SQL to build tooling that automates repetitive support workflows
- Use data analysis to identify issue patterns, prioritize fixes, and report on support quality
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product to surface and resolve root-cause bugs
- Build and maintain internal documentation and runbooks
Required
- 1–2 years of experience in a GIS support, analyst, or technical role
- Degree in Geographic Information Science (GIS) or a related field
- Proficiency with SQL and Python
- Solid grounding in GIS concepts: projections, vector/raster data, spatial analysis
- Comfort using AI tools to accelerate your work (writing scripts, drafting responses, automating tasks)
- Clear, empathetic written communication; you can explain a complex issue to a non-technical customer
- Familiarity with cloud data formats (GeoJSON, PMTiles, COG, etc.)
