Description

The Peer Support and Case Management Specialist serves as a vital member of the treatment team at Fellowship House, combining the lived experience of recovery with professional skills in case management. This position is responsible for supporting individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders through direct service, peer-based coaching, linkage to community resources, and active participation in the recovery process.

The role emphasizes a balance of peer-led emotional support and structured case management, ensuring clients are met with compassion, accountability, and the tools to succeed in recovery from their first contact through their full participation in residential treatment.


Serve as a positive role model by sharing personal experiences with recovery in appropriate and therapeutic ways.

Provide one-on-one and group peer coaching to encourage hope, motivation, and recovery-oriented thinking.

Assist clients in identifying recovery goals, building coping skills, and managing relapse prevention strategies.

Support clients in developing a personal recovery plan and identifying early warning signs of relapse or crisis.

Promote client self-advocacy and empowerment in treatment planning and life decisions.

Provide individual case management services to address client needs including housing, employment, benefits, healthcare, and other supportive services.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including GPRA reporting and billing records.

Monitor and assist with medication management and compliance.

Conduct alcohol and drug screenings as required.

Provide transportation for clients to appointments, meetings, or services when necessary.

Conduct room inspections, reinforce basic living skills, and monitor adherence to program policies.

Serve as a liaison between Fellowship House and community resources to expand access to support and services.

Support outreach and engagement efforts to bring clients into treatment and connect them to long-term supports.

Represent Fellowship House and the peer recovery perspective in collaborative meetings, outreach events, and educational sessions.

Foster ongoing relationships with outside agencies to ensure continuity of care and access to recovery supports.

Requirements

Deep understanding of recovery principles and the impact of substance use and mental health disorders.

Strong ability to establish trust and rapport through empathy, active listening, and lived experience.

Basic knowledge of Recovery Oriented Systems of Care.

Familiarity with NIDA’s Principles of Effective Treatment.

Strong documentation and time management skills.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and across diverse client populations.

Awareness and implementation of culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.

High school diploma or GED required

Must be in recovery from substance use or co-occurring disorders with a minimum of two years of sustained recovery.

Must complete and maintain certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist through the Alabama Department of Mental Health

Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

CPR, First Aid, and Medication Assistance Certification (may be obtained after hire through Fellowship House).

Experience facilitating or co-facilitating peer support or recovery groups preferred.


Schedule:

Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 AM-6:00PM

Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed for program and direct care support
