Position Title: Program Instructor (Part-Time, Contract), FeedNC Building Healthy Habits Program
Reports to: Program Manager of Workforce Development & Education
Position Summary: FeedNC is seeking a dedicated and passionate teacher for a part-time contract position to lead the Building Healthy Habits (BHH) Summer Program for children ages 4-12. The program is designed to educate and empower children by emphasizing the importance of building and maintaining healthy habits in a fun, interactive, and engaging way. As an instructor, you will work with small, fast-paced groups, delivering lessons that focus on essential life skills, including nutrition, physical activity, mindfulness, and personal hygiene. You will play a key role in fostering a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment where children feel encouraged and motivated to develop lifelong healthy habits. Additionally, you will track participants' progress toward measurable goals, ensuring that each child’s individual needs are met and that they gain tangible skills they can apply at home and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily lessons and teach children in a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants during activities and transitions, ensuring that every child feels secure and supported.
- Guide and mentor interns, ensuring they follow safety protocols and provide additional support to help deliver the program effectively.
- Prepare and organize lesson materials in advance, ensuring alignment with educational goals and program objectives.
- Continuously assess participants’ progress toward their health and wellness goals, adapting lessons as needed to support individual learning styles.
- Communicate regularly with families, providing updates on each child’s progress, sharing at-home goals, and offering tips for continued growth.
- Collaborate with FeedNC staff, interns, and volunteers to ensure smooth program delivery and a positive group dynamic.
- Foster a positive and supportive environment that encourages growth, learning, and the development of healthy habits in each participant.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment, address behavioral issues, and ensure all children are actively engaged.
- Ensure the program is inclusive of all children, adapting teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, including those with special needs.
- Contribute to program evaluation by providing feedback on curriculum effectiveness and suggesting improvements for future programming.
- Foster collaboration among staff, interns, and volunteers to create a supportive team atmosphere that enhances the overall learning experience for the children.
- Attend and contribute to parent/guardian meetings or orientation sessions as needed, ensuring clear communication and alignment with the program’s goals.
- Keep accurate records of participant progress, attendance, and any incidents or behavioral concerns, as required by FeedNC policies.
- Ensure all activities comply with FeedNC’s policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including emergency protocols and reporting incidents.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or higher in education, child development, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience teaching or working with children, preferably in a classroom or camp setting.
- Strong classroom management, leadership, and teaching skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage children and work with families.
- Ability to create a safe, engaging, and fun learning atmosphere.
- Must be 18 and able to pass a background check and drug test.
Schedule:
- 25 hours per week:
- Mondays: 10:30 am – 3:30 pm
- Tuesdays and Fridays: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
- June 1st – July 31st, 2024
Location: FeedNC, 2456 Charlotte Hwy, Mooresville, NC
Working Conditions: Possible exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions due to frequent contact with staff and guests. Occasional local and regional travel required. Ability to work weekend and evening hours as needed.
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
