GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Visual Content Specialist serves as Feeding America West Michigan’s photographer, videographer, and creative resource with responsibilities that include capturing impactful photography and video footage, creating social media content, and providing creative support for the food bank as a key member of a highly collaborative communications team.
This person will work under the direction of the Communications and Marketing Manager in close collaboration with the Content Specialist. The specialist is comfortable working independently and closely with a team to deliver comprehensive campaigns.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Photography and Videography
- Serve as the organization’s go-to photographer and videographer to tell the story of hunger and charitable food services in our 40-county service area.
- Edit and select photographs for the website, newsletters, grant reports, and donor appeals. Provide outside vendors, partner agencies, and news media with images and footage as needed.
- Maintain the visual assets in our digital asset management system.
Social media content
- Create the visual content for our social media calendar in alignment with organizational goals to raise resources and awareness about food insecurity, including video shorts, photos and light graphic design (InDesign).
- Gather content for posts from our warehouses, agency partners, volunteer recognition, and events.
- In collaboration with the content specialist, keep up with posts needed to meet grant requirements.
- Stay current on trends, best practices, techniques, strategies, and platforms.
Other duties
- Collaborate with the content specialist and events coordinator to meet in-house needs for collateral. (InDesign)
- Collaborate with the content specialist to ensure all visual assets meet organizational privacy policy and use requirements.
- Other communications duties that may arise.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Photography experience
- Videography experience
- Photo and video editing (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro)
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks
- Instinct for effective brand storytelling strategies
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and manage a flexible schedule
- Strong writing abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Desire to represent the food bank
- Personal commitment to our mission
- Willing to travel periodically in our 40-county service area to gather content for social media, alone or with another team member. (Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Peninsula travel 1-2 times yearly. Travel within 100 miles of FAWM headquarters 3-4 times yearly)
- Experience with InDesign (preferred)
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in photography, photojournalism, videography, journalism, marketing or related field.
