This position is for Summer Preschool Assessment Team (PAT). All pay will be timesheeted. You must be available and commit to attending all assessment days.

This is a fast-paced turn around evaluation and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for children who are turning three (transitioning from Part C to Part B of IDEA) and some children between the ages of three and five who were screened through the district ChildFind process. Teams will evaluate a child in the morning. If the child qualifies, the team will write a draft IEP and hold a meeting that afternoon.

PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Position Summary

Physical therapists in the educational setting provide specially designed instruction and related services. The physical therapist collaborates with families and educational team members to develop appropriate education programs and advises on health related concerns as they impact education for students with special needs. The program goal is to help students to function as independently as possible within the least restrictive environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Evaluates the student physical, motor, mobility skills and the classroom/school environment to identify performance deficits that interfere with student development, learning, and access to education and the school environment. The physical therapist utilizes a variety of standardized motor assessments, functional assessments, skilled clinical observations; histories; and interviews.
  • Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment and identifies need for physical therapy services.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, and develop recommendations.
  • Develops and implements physical therapy intervention plans that include a variety of service delivery models: direct service, collaboration or shared goals/objectives with classroom staff, and consultation/problems solving.
  • Coordinates services with the IEP team, including parent.
  • Identifies, adapts and modifies equipment.
  • Supervises licensed physical therapy assistant in the implementation of physical therapy services.
  • Inservice to classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to embed intervention techniques in the classroom and support generalization of student skills.

OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Possess degree in Physical Therapy.

Possess current Washington State Physical Therapy license.

Additional Requirements

Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

Possess excellent communication skills and effective problem solving ability.

Condition Of Employment

Criminal background clearance

Possess, or able to acquire within first year of employment, Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification.

Willing to learn job related computer skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will frequently stand/walk, squat, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will occasionally be required to sit, kneel, and reach overhead, crawl, climb stairs and lift/carry. The employee is required to constantly lift/carry up to 10 lbs and frequently will lift/carry a maximum up to 20 lbs. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 57 lbs. This position requires pushing or pulling a maximum force of 30 lbs. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the District.

WORK SCHEDULE

Estimated 4.5 to 8 hours, Monday-Friday, June & July

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to, and is evaluated by the Director of Student Support Services.
