SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

ALREADY HAVE A CDL? After completing the required district training, you will start as a guest employee / $31.56 - $34.83 DOE

NEW TO BUS DRIVING? Get paid to get your Commercial Driver's license (CLD) / $22.00 per hour

In addition to training: $250 paid after passing the CDL road test and an additional $250 paid after completing 45 work days with FWPS

Position Summary

Operates school buses safely under all types of weather conditions. Transports students and other authorized persons on regular and special programs "to and from school" routes, on field trips, extracurricular activities, and other extra activities as authorized by the school district officials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies implemented by OSPI.

Follow District pupil management policies and procedures.

Assist students loading and unloading from the school bus as needed.

Operate wheelchair lift and secure wheelchair for safe transportation.

Clean and service the school bus to include interior/exterior sweeping, washing and fueling anytime tank is below ½ full.

Properly operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by Washington State School Bus Specifications.

Other Responsibilities

Prepare work orders on the mechanical needs or problems of the bus or its operating systems.

Provide support and sustain positive moral with District Transportation personnel.

Accurately and legibly complete forms, records, time sheets, trip requests, route maps, accident reports, and other documentation or reports as required.

Perform other school bus driver-related duties as directed by District policies.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

High School Diploma

Must be 21 years of age with five years previous vehicle driving experience

Additional Requirements

Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License; Commercial Driver's License, Class B with appropriate endorsements and a clean 5-year complete driving abstract

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Criminal background clearance

Must obtain school bus driver authorization from OSPI

Provide annual abstract of driving record from the Department of Licensing, or sign an authorization form so that the school district may send for one.

Possess and maintain an excellent driving record. Driving record must show no convictions for DUI, reckless driving, negligent driving, or hit and run to be considered for or to maintain this position.

Successfully meet all requirements of WAC 180-20

Possess current CPR and First Aid card

Completion of SECURE training

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 pounds and must frequently lift /carry up to 20 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 10 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outdoor conditions. The employee occasionally may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the District.

Must be able to work flexible hours with split shifts. Must have the ability to maintain a safe bus environment while monitoring student activity. May have exposure to inclement weather, including but not limited to, snow, rain, fog, ice, sun and extreme heat and cold. Requirements also include, but are not limited to, sitting; standing; walking; bending, stooping, squatting, driving; carrying; lifting; hearing; speaking; writing; keyboarding; and exposure to angry, frustrated, or aggressive individuals.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position typically works the day shift Monday through Friday during the school year. Hours may vary. Other hours and days are possible if a field trip is obtained.

Guest Bus Driving $31.56 per hour

This position includes the following benefits prorated based on FTE - Medical, dental and vision, sick leave, life insurance and retirement.
