Federal Thermal, a Midwest leader in industrial thermal and combustion solutions with over a century of operating history, is seeking an elite Journeyman Unlimited Field Services Technician. This is a senior, high-trust role for technicians who operate with ownership, judgment, and leadership.
This position is designed for a technician we can build teams and technical capacity around. You will act as a technical authority in the field, lead complex troubleshooting and commissioning efforts, mentor junior technicians, and represent Federal Thermal with customers, engineers, inspectors, and internal teams.
Our work centers on boilers, steam systems, process heaters, pumps, burner management systems, combustion controls, PLCs, and industrial electrical troubleshooting. If you thrive in technically demanding environments and want real responsibility—not just the next service call—this role is for you.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Vocational / Trade School preferred or equivalent industry experience
- Journeyman Unlimited Mechanical, Plumbing or Electrical License (required)
- 8 years industrial or commercial boiler or process heater experience
Strong working knowledge of:
- Boilers and steam systems
- Process heaters
- Burner Management Systems (BMS)
- Pumps and rotating equipment
- Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- PLCs, HMIs, field instrumentation, RTDs, thermocouples
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license with clean driving record
- Must pass safety-sensitive drug screening and background check
- Willingness to travel regionally and nationwide (~40%)
Primary Responsibilities
System Troubleshooting & Commissioning
- Lead complex diagnostics on boilers, heaters, burners, and combustion systems
- Perform startups, commissioning, tuning, and optimization (single & dual-fuel)
- Execute loop checks, logic verification, and safety validation
- Perform ASME/API Z-21.21 tightness testing
- Conduct CFR-48 CINCO-D emissions testing
Controls, PLC & Electrical
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot PLC logic and HMI configurations
- Upload, download, and modify PLC/HMI programs as required
- Apply industrial electrical troubleshooting principles safely and effectively
- Identify and label system components per ISA standards
Documentation & Leadership
- Create redlines for electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics
- Assist with quoting, scope development, and repair recommendations
- Mentor junior technicians and support field escalation issues
- Lead short technical training sessions and model Federal Thermal’s Core Values
Pay: $35.00 - $60.00 per hour
