Duties

Serving as a Information Technology Specialist (InfoSec) GS-2210-13 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Chief Information Technology Directorate.

The primary purpose of this position is overseeing the cybersecurity posture for one or more systems throughout the entire lifecycle, providing continuous monitoring through audit log reviews, controlling testing, and auditing remediation tracking; participating in the implementation of cybersecurity controls; and developing and/or reviewing security authorization documents.

Typical Duties Include

  • Supporting the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process from initiation to completion in accordance with published procedures and coordinating and documenting security authorizations for assigned systems.
  • Developing and reviewing security plans for assigned systems, as well as system security controls for continued implementation in accordance with the agency's Security Plan (SP) and policies.
  • Assessing risk and providing recommendations and guidance to the board chairperson, while providing guidance and input for the development of system operations procedures.
  • Maintaining an inventory of system components (hardware and software) for assigned systems as an element of the SP.
  • Establishing minimum security requirements for a system and ensuring the controls are provided to the appropriate project manager for inclusion in the overall system requirements.
  • Advising cybersecurity stakeholders such as authorizing officials, program managers, system owners, project managers, and systems administrators on cybersecurity issues.

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:

  • Ensuring system compliance with federal laws, regulations, and agency security policies (FISMA, NIST)
  • Conducting risk assessments, manage vulnerabilities, and support the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process
  • Developing, reviewing, and maintaining security documentation, including security plans and authorizations
  • Monitoring system security controls, report incidents, and participate in incident response activities
  • Supporting security awareness training, change management, and internal/external audit

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for Suitability/Fitness as a condition of placement in this IT Non-Sensitive, Moderate Risk position. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.

Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. The position may carry light items, such as papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort.

Work Environment: The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The position may occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in such places as research and production facilities.
