JOB DESCRIPTION: CUSTODIAN
JOB SUMMARY:
The Custodian is responsible, through the Head Custodian, to perform all custodial maintenance work required for routine cleaning, care, maintenance, protection, and preservation of assigned buildings, its contents, support systems, and grounds on their shift.
GENERAL DUTIES:
1. Perform all cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned and outlined by the Head Custodian or Maintenance Supervisor.
2. Make minor repairs and report the need of more complex or major repairs to the Head Custodian, in writing, assist anyone making said repairs.
3. Accept deliveries to the building when proper personnel are not available.
4. Perform tasks assigned by the Head Custodian, Maintenance Supervisor, and building Principal or designee, in case of any emergency.
5. Perform related duties as assigned by the Head Custodian, Maintenance Supervisor, building Principal or designee.
6. Be responsible for assigning tasks and duties to other custodial personnel working in buildings and grounds, as may be appropriate.
7. Train other custodial personnel to fill in on their shift on any other shift they have knowledge of.
8. Be responsible to perform all tasks and duties in accordance with all OSHA regulations.
9. Be responsible to provide safe, clean and functional buildings and grounds for our staff, students and community.
10. Complete all checklists and forms and see they are submitted in a timely manner.
EDUCATION: High School graduate or the equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in custodial maintenance services of buildings and grounds. Experience with all types of tools and equipment necessary to fulfill duties, working with people is required.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS: Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and mixtures. Knowledge of and skill to operate all tools and equipment necessary to fulfill responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of basic computer operation. Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HV AC system.
ABILITY TO: Read and understand instructions and reports; complete detailed checklists and order forms; adapt to new techniques and systems as the needs of the buildings and grounds dictate; work with teachers, students and general public in carrying out the general policies of the school district.
SUPERVISION: Receives supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor and Superintendent, with daily operating instruction from the building Principal or designee.
CHARACTER and HEALTH: Must be in good health as evidenced by absence record in previous employment and/or school and physically able to perform tasks necessary to the position. Work and personal habits practiced on the job must be such as to reflect favorably upon the school system.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Normally forty (40) hours per week, twelve month per year.
WAGE: Commensurate with experience and qualifications and as stated on the wage schedule as adopted by the Federal Hocking Local Board of Education.
