Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
A Purchasing Lead/Manager spends most of their time order products/materials from approved suppliers and distributors while seeking quality goods at reasonable prices. At times, it will require searching for reliable vendors or suppliers to be added to our approved list to provide those products or new products. Negotiating prices and contracts, reviewing technical specifications for raw materials, components, and equipment. Determines quantity of product and time of deliveries. Additional responsibilities include:
Maintain records of goods ordered and received
Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them in order to determine product availability and terms of sales.
Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
Propose improvements to the current purchasing system that will improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business
Collaborate with Materials Manager, Inventory Control staff and program managers to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs and then maintaining those levels throughout the year to align with company goals and objectives.
Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
Manage the company’s day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure that purchasing team members are meeting their personal performance standards.
Maintain and manage inventory accuracy levels according to company goals and objectives.
Manage the various roles that support purchasing which might include but is not limited to; Purchasing Assistants, Receiving, Cycle Counting, Purchasing Admins, Inventory Control.
Required Qualifications:
The preferred candidates will have:
4 or more years managing Purchasing teams or processes
College degree preferred
Lean experience preferred
APICS/CPIM strongly preferred
Ability to meet deadlines.
Time management, prioritization, and effective problem solving skills.
Must be proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Experience in AS400 is preferred.
Must be proficient in internal processes and procedures and follow up and through on assignments.
