Role Description This full-time, on-site Correctional Officer role is located in the United States and is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of a federal correctional institution. The Correctional Officer supervises individuals in custody, conducts regular counts, searches, and inspections, and enforces rules and regulations to prevent incidents and maintain discipline. Daily responsibilities include monitoring living and work areas, escorting incarcerated individuals within and outside the facility, and responding promptly and effectively to emergencies. The role involves preparing written reports, documenting incidents, and communicating clearly with colleagues and supervisors to ensure continuity of operations. Correctional Officers also support rehabilitation efforts by modeling professional behavior, facilitating access to programs, and interacting with individuals in a fair, consistent, and respectful manner.

Qualifications

  • Strong law enforcement and criminal justice knowledge, including understanding of correctional policies, procedures, and legal standards.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and the ability to lead, direct, and motivate individuals in a structured, high-security environment.
  • Experience or training in physical security, such as perimeter control, access management, incident response, and safety protocols.
  • Background in training or instruction, with the ability to learn, apply, and share policies, procedures, and emergency response techniques.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure, make sound decisions quickly, and handle conflict or crisis situations professionally.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and clear, respectful interaction with diverse populations.
  • Physical fitness sufficient to meet job demands, including standing, walking, climbing, and responding to emergencies as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays, and to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks, medical and psychological evaluations, and any applicable fitness assessments
