Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Correctional Officer role located in Sheridan, OR. Correctional Officers maintain safety and security by supervising individuals in custody, conducting inmate counts, monitoring movement, and enforcing rules and regulations. They perform security checks, searches, and inspections of housing units, work areas, and common spaces to prevent incidents and ensure a secure environment. The role involves responding to emergencies, de-escalating conflicts, and collaborating with law enforcement and facility staff to manage risks. Correctional Officers also support inmate programs by overseeing work details, facilitating access to services, and documenting activities and incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Ability to apply Criminal Justice knowledge and principles in a correctional setting.
  • Strong Supervisory Skills to oversee inmates, manage groups, and maintain order.
  • Experience or training in Physical Security practices, including facility checks, searches, and incident response.
  • Background in Law Enforcement or related fields, with familiarity in legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Training skills to support onboarding, mentoring, and continuous development of staff and participants.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and follow established protocols.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for reports, documentation, and interactions with diverse populations.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required in a 24/7 correctional environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in criminal justice or related fields is beneficial.
  • Ability to meet federal employment requirements, including background checks, medical standards, and training completion.
