Major Duties:
GS-12
- Assesses resources required to support a given mission through knowledge of operations with specialized equipment.
- Responds to actual and potential incidents and possesses overall tactical communication systems responsibility during deployment.
- Maintains overall responsibility for Communications Security (COMSEC) including Transmission Security, Physical Security, Emission Security, and Cryptographic Security to protect against compromise at the physical or transport levels.
- Determines resource allocation, addresses interoperability issues, installs communications systems, establishes connectivity and monitors systems performance.
- Maintains individual responsibility to know and put into practice all the provisions of the appropriate publications that relate to the protection of the COMSEC equipment and materials.
- Assist in developing plans for communications, and providing communication training.
In addition to the above
GS-13
- Provides limited advice and guidance in the field of tactical communications to FBI management, other federal agencies, and state and local enforcement both during on-site management of operations and during daily functions.
- Develops operational strategies, prepares primary support and contingency plans for management as required by mission objectives.
- Responds to actual and potential incidents and possesses overall tactical communication systems responsibility during deployment.
- Maintains overall responsibility for Communications Security (COMSEC) including Transmission Security, Physical Security, Emission Security, and Cryptographic Security to protect against compromise at the physical or transport levels.
- Determines resource allocation, addresses interoperability issues, installs communications systems, establishes connectivity and monitors systems performance.
- Maintains individual responsibility to know and put into practice all the provisions of the appropriate publications that relate to the protection of the COMSEC equipment and materials. Assist in developing plans for communications, and providing communication training.

Specialized Experience (SE):
GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
- Experience evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedure and requirements that demonstrates knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.
- Experience in telecommunications/networking concepts and methods to provide operational services.
- Experience in the development of written documentation including tactical communications plans, site surveys, training plans and system evaluation reports.
- Experience in preparing budgetary justifications and making comparisons.
In addition to the above
GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
- Experiencing evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedure and requirements that demonstrates knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.
- Experience analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of program operations in meeting established goals and objectives.
- Experience in telecommunications/networking concepts and methods to provide operational services.
