JOB DESCRIPTION
As an FBI IT professional your job is to ensure that our law enforcement systems, as well as the entire cyberspace in which we work, are protected. This means applying your knowledge of computer technology, cybersecurity, electronic surveillance, encryption, forensic science and more to safeguard information across the FBI, as well as our domestic and international law enforcement partners.
SALARY LEVEL
Pay level for this position:
- GS 7–13: $40,082.00–$109,908.00
Salary shown is the base salary for the grade levels. Salary is also commensurate with professional experience.
MAJOR DUTIES
GS 7:
- Perform analysis on existing software and recommend changes, improvements, and debugging ability.
- Perform routine IT tasks including system configurations, updates, and basic troubleshooting.
GS 9:
In addition to the above:
- Build application software and provide post-implementation support, including troubleshooting and error resolution with program execution.
- Conduct preliminary analysis of current systems to determine the feasibility of new or automated IT to resolve the issues.
GS 11:
In addition to the above:
- Provide advice and guidance to management regarding technical issues that pertain to planning, designing, developing, procuring, implementing, operating, and maintaining the organization's IT systems.
- Develop close contact and working relationships with personnel in various functional activities throughout the organization to effectively carry out and coordinate necessary activities.
- Assist end-users in a variety of subject-matter fields in deciding which processes to automate, how to select equipment and software, how best to use available technology, and whether and how to network.
GS 12:
In addition to the above:
- Oversee critical IT initiatives, ensuring that they align with goals and objectives.
- Perform a variety of complex management/program analysis functions and advise managers and operational personnel on difficult and/or complex issues.
- Provide expertise necessary to solve complex problems that hinder developing or operating the organization's IT systems.
GS 13:
In addition to the above:
- Serve as a lead technical advisor, who provides advice and guidance to management regarding technical issues that pertain to planning, designing, developing, procuring, implementing, operating, and maintaining the organization's IT systems.
- Work with myriad customers to develop sustainable strategic plans and tactical, technical solutions for executing effective and efficient network-related problem management.
- Lead and manage high-impact IT projects that may have agencywide or interagency implications.
- Champion best practices and patterns to enhance the availability, reliability, and stability of IT systems, platforms, and overall delivery of system.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
- Must be willing to travel as required.
- Must meet the FBI’s Employment Eligibility requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
- Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S.-accredited college or university.
Education may be substituted for Specialized Experience (SE) as follows:
- GS 7: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement OR one full year of graduate-level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.
- GS 9: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLB or JD, if related.
- GS 11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
- GS 12 and above: Education may not be substituted for SE at this grade level.
All degrees must be verified by submitting college transcripts.
