The Opportunity
You will serve as a critical preconstruction leader, driving the successful preparation of accurate, complete, and competitive cost estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects. This role allows you to secure profitable work and evaluate project risks while ensuring scope clarity for a company that values your dedication. You will have the autonomy to manage multiple bids and the support of an operational team focused on long-term career growth.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for commercial mechanical systems including HVAC piping, ductwork, and hydronic systems.
- Analyze detailed project documents to identify scope gaps, overlaps, coordination issues, and special requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates using modern estimating software.
- Solicit, review, and level vendor and subcontractor quotations to ensure complete scope alignment and competitive pricing.
- Identify value engineering options, alternate materials, and cost-saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
- Coordinate with project management and operations teams during turnover to communicate critical scope assumptions and risks.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent certification.
- Strong knowledge of commercial mechanical systems, materials, installation practices, and contract documents.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as FastPIPE, FastDUCT, or related industry technology tools.
- Advanced mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills necessary for managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required for collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office applications with a specific emphasis on Excel and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Associate degree, technical training, or construction-related higher education.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience estimating commercial mechanical, HVAC, or piping projects.
- Demonstrated estimating experience with healthcare, education, municipal, or complex institutional projects.
