Position Overview

Fedco Seeds is seeking a Seasonal Customer Service Representative to join our Organic Grower Supply (OGS) team for the upcoming sales season. As our lead cashier, you will play a key role in providing excellent service to customers in our retail space by ringing out orders, answering questions, maintaining product displays, and ensuring a clean and welcoming store environment. The ideal candidate will bring a friendly demeanor, positive attitude, willingness to learn new skills, and the flexibility to help out where needed. This role is full-time (30-35 hours/week) from March through the end of June, with a potential to stay on part-time during the off-season.

Responsibilities

Customer Checkout & Retail

• Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently using point-of-sale software.
• Handle cash, credit cards, and other payment methods and issue receipts.
• Process returns or exchanges in accordance with company policies.
• Double-check prices and apply discounts or promotions accurately.
• Perform opening and closing procedures for the OGS retail space.
• Reconcile cash drawers at the end of each shift and report any discrepancies.
• Facilitate pickup orders.

Customer Service

• Greet customers warmly and assist with any questions or concerns.
• Help customers load items into their vehicles.
• Have a basic understanding of Fedco products and services to provide customers with product information and guidance, with a desire for continued learning.
• Collaborate with OGS team members to ensure a smooth and positive customer experience.
• Collect customer feedback and documents for further consideration.
• Troubleshoot OGS shipments with problems.
• Assist the OGS customer service team in fielding customer questions, as needed.

Product Fronting and Restocking

• Front and organize products on shelves to maintain an attractive and well-stocked store.
• Restock shelves as needed, ensuring product availability for customers.
• Monitor inventory levels for OGS products, seed racks, potted plants, and seedlings, and notify team members when stock is low.

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Perform general cleaning duties to keep the OGS retail space tidy and presentable.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness in customer areas and restrooms.
• Ensure that promotional materials or displays are in order.
• Water and monitor potted plants and seedlings available for sale to ensure quality during the spring order pick-up season.

Team Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with OGS team members to facilitate spring order pick-ups.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors or managers.
• Assist the warehouse team with tasks as needed, including packing seeds, picking orders, ect.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a customer service or retail role is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
• Basic math skills and the ability to count change.
• Ability and willingness to operate an electric pallet jack (training provided).
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.
• Enthusiasm for gardening or a willingness to learn about farm and garden products.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to tasks.
