Job Description
Under general direction of the VP of Instruction, the tenure-track Nursing Instructor has primary responsibility for teaching lecture and clinical courses in the area of Nursing and Allied Health. The successful candidate will assist in building the Nursing/Allied Health Programs’ enrollment and curriculum by working collaboratively with, and in support of, the Allied Health Director and other instructional staff, by coordinating programs, overseeing schedules and program budgets, and recruiting and advising students. Skill in curriculum development and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and health services agencies is critical.

Required Qualifications
The following reflect requirements as specified by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office and the Board of Vocational Nursing:
- Current California active license as a Registered Nurse or Vocational Nurse
- Have a minimum of two years’ experience as an RN or LVN within the last five years.
- A bachelor’s degree in any subject, plus two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment
OR
- An associate degree in any subject, plus six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Desirable Qualifications
- Current active CA license as an RN.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an approved school.
- Teaching experience at the college level, preferably community college.
- Experience in high and low fidelity simulation, scenario development, skills lab use; may include moulage, equipment and software maintenance, P&P development.
- Knowledge of BVNPT rules and regulations that govern undergraduate professional vocational nursing educational programs; pre-licensure program curriculum and instructional program development.
- Ability to research and locate alternative funding sources; ability to locate and apply to potential foundation or grant funding sources.
- Successful completion of courses in teaching, curriculum development, and administration from an approved school.
Essential Duties
- Teaching and developing curriculum for the college’s Vocational Nursing Program. An example of courses currently in the curriculum include: Certified Nurse Assistant; Medical Dosage Calculations; Medical Terminology; Nursing Foundations and Lab; Mental Health Nursing; Introduction to Pharmacology; Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing and Labs; Transition to Nursing Practice; and IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal.
- Supporting the Allied Health Director in researching and developing curriculum for the Allied Health Program which may include low and high-fidelity simulations, emergency medical technician, CPR and/or first aid, phlebotomy, home health aide, medical assisting, medical office technology, and medical billing and coding, independently or in conjunction with other schools.
- Create and implement culturally responsive and equity minded course material, teaching practices, and learning assessment strategies that enhance student success and persistence toward academic/career goals and that help close equity gaps.
- Assisting with the supervision and coordination of Allied Health Program in conformance with applicable state regulations, requirements, accreditation standards and state and college policies.
- Participating in activities such as lab organization, course scheduling, budget creation, purchasing supplies, conducting evaluations, and reporting on program and course level student learning outcomes.
- Participating in the recruitment and selection of nursing faculty.
- Assisting with required reports and approval forms for the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, Feather River College, as well as the preparation of the self-study report for the BVNPT approval visit.
- Assisting with maintaining contractual agreements and clinical schedules with community service agencies used as clinical sites for Allied Health Program students.
- Participating in college duties such as scheduled office hours, curriculum development, selection of textbooks, evaluation of course materials, committee membership, student advising, program promotion, and college and community service.
- Preparing recruitment materials, participating in recruitment activities, and conducting activities that support student retention.
- Participating in professional growth activities and remaining current in the discipline(s), and maintain applicable professional licenses and certifications.
- Other duties as assigned.
