Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, including taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and preparing patients for procedures
- Perform clinical tasks such as administering medications, collecting specimens for lab testing, and providing basic wound care
- Support diagnostic procedures like X-ray imaging and assist during minor surgical or dermatology procedures in outpatient settings
- Manage patient intake processes efficiently by verifying insurance information and updating electronic health records (EHR systems)
- Monitor patient physiology during visits, ensuring accurate documentation of symptoms and vital signs in compliance with medical standards
- Support hospital medicine units or trauma centers by assisting with inpatient care routines and emergency response protocols
- Maintain a thorough understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), and medication administration protocols
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in various healthcare environments such as outpatient clinics, hospitals, or specialty practices like dermatology or geriatrics
- Knowledge of EHR systems for accurate documentation and record keeping
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as X-ray technician training or OR experience are a plus
- Familiarity with hospital experience including Level I Trauma Center or Level II Trauma Center settings is advantageous
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding, and medication administration procedures
- Experience supporting diverse patient populations including pediatrics (PICU), internal medicine patients, or geriatric care is preferred
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments such as urgent care centers or emergency medicine units
