What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Data Center Technician — Equinix MI6 Miami (Independent Contractor, ~40 hrs/month) position at FDCServers.NET?
### About FDC Servers
FDC Servers (AS30058) has operated dedicated-server and IP-transit services for 25 years across 28 global data centers. Miami has been a steady location for us — around 25-35 hours/month of on-site work on average, with occasional busier periods.
We're shifting away from nationwide remote-hands vendors in favor of one dedicated local tech per major site. You'd be the only person touching our gear in Miami — primarily at MI6 where most of our infrastructure sits, with occasional work at our network rack in MI1 — knowing our racks, cables, and inventory inside and out.
### What you'd do
- Rack, stack, and cable Dell, HP, and Supermicro servers
- Swap drives, NICs, PSUs, RAM — full component-level work alongside our remote engineers
- Handle shipments, cross-connects, and inventory — primarily in our MI6 cage, plus occasional work at our network rack in MI1
- Maintain cabling discipline — labeled runs, spares organized, no mess
- Respond to tickets within agreed SLA (business hours, occasional after-hours for urgent P1)
- Communicate with remote engineering team via Google Chat
### What we're looking for
- Already working at MI6, MI1, or another Miami-area data center — ideally as a contractor for a DC services company, or a tenant's tech who wants steady side income
- Strong cabling discipline (this genuinely matters to us)
- Server hardware experience at the component level — not just installs
- Comfortable with Juniper and Cisco switching and 10G, 100G, and 400G optics
### What we offer
- Approximately 40 hours/month at a competitive hourly rate (by agreement, experience-based) — typically 25-35 hours in normal months, more during busy periods, billed hourly as worked
- 1099 independent contractor — you invoice us monthly
- Direct relationship with FDC ownership — no staffing agency
- Net 15 payment terms
- Long-term stability — we're committed to this model
- Free to maintain other contracts at other sites
