Job Description
The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for accurately posting various accounting transactions, reviewing and balancing general ledger accounts and other accounting tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable
• Enter approved vendor invoices into ERP system.
• Ensure recurring vendor invoices are received and posted monthly.
• Support ongoing transition of accounts payable from manual to electronic including portal registrations, ACH and automatic payments.
Investments
• Enter investments in ERP and investment management systems, ensuring all details are accurate and complete.
• Balance monthly to broker statements.
• Review and verify accrued interest calculations.
Prepaids and Fixed Assets
• Ensure appropriate purchases are properly recorded and amortized.
General Ledger and Financial Statement Review
• Review balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Update budget to actual analysis monthly.
Other Accounting Support
• Support Senior Accountant and CFO as requested.
• Support audit requests.
Required Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related major is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in accounting. Experience in a credit union or financial institution is preferred.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in performing accounting tasks, recording transactions, and preparing financial reports.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures, including GAAP
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues, communicate financial information, and build positive relationships
