Health Services

School Nurse Responsibilities mandated by the State of Tennessee.

1. Mandated health screenings for Pre-K, KK, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10th
2. KK, 7th grade immunization audits
3. End-of-year state report which sums up all clinic visits, medications given, procedures, etc.
4. KK immunization audit (December)
5. OSHA training

School Nurse Responsibilities (Routine)

1. Providing first aid to students/staff
2. Performing procedures as needed to students such as g-tube feedings, assisting diabetic students with carb counting, Accu-Checks, etc.
3. Medication administration
4. Assist with toileting as needed
5. Monitor special diagnosis such as seizures, diabetes, allergies, and provide emergency medication as needed
6. Obtain Confidential Health forms, make a problem list, develop care plans based on the problem list and instruct staff on the needs of students according to the care plan.
7. Monthly AED checks
8. Health Education classes to include but not limited to Asthma/Clean Air classes, Handwashing, Disease Processes, Infection control
9. Health Referral
10. Participate in 504/IEP meeting
11. General Meetings with parents
12. Work with PE teachers on health related issues, assist as needed
13. Manage communicable diseases
14. Report suspected child abuse
15. Provide emergency aid
16. Health education to staff
17. Annual District-wide AED Drill
18. Assist staff with obtaining CPR certification
19. Student injuries/accidents
20. Staff injuries/workers compensation
