This role is responsible for leading the actions taken to control and optimize the thermal, chemical and energetic processes. The engineer will collaborate closely with site operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Essential Functions – Teamwork:
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant WTE facility performance.
- Support continuous improvement of safety across routine and outage tasks.
- Prepare reports, business correspondence, and technical documentation as needed.
- Present information clearly and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
- Follow safety protocols; identify and report safety/environmental hazards.
- Apply engineering problem-solving to identify and implement solutions.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, across various platforms.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to support reliability efforts.
- Improve the efficiency of the boiler and the combustion by adjusting parameters such as the combustion curve.
- Manage the emissions produced by optimizing the use of reagents and the parameters necessary.
- Manage the mass and energy balance of the plant.
- Collaborate in the improvement of the operation of the plant for better thermal efficiency, reduce where possible operation costs and other areas.
- Support the outage planning by defining the scope of certain tasks.
- Manage process deliverables and reporting requirements.
- Oversee boiler inspections (in-house and 3rd-party), including UT testing and combustion reviews.
- Support identification and planning of emergent outage work scopes.
- Analyze post-outage data to set priorities and recommend corrective actions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Environmental, or Facilities Engineering preferred).
- 3–5 years of experience in a power plant environment preferred.
- Strong math and mechanical skills; able to perform basic mechanical tasks and equipment access.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability Engineering Certification.
- Experience with MS Project and capital planning.
- Understanding of Energy-from-Waste (EFW) technology and steam power plant operations.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
