Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Engineer to lead the design, engineering, and integration of new vehicle platforms, with a focus on wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversions. This is a hands-on role involving mechanism design, structural engineering, closures, and full vehicle system integration from concept through production.
The ideal candidate has strong automotive engineering experience, expertise in mechanism and sheet-metal design, and the ability to manage projects while working cross-functionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop vehicle conversions using Inventor CAD
- Engineer mechanisms, suspensions, closures, and structural components
- Lead design, procurement, prototype builds, validation, and production following APQP processes
- Ensure designs meet cost, quality, performance, and reliability requirements
- Oversee prototype builds and conduct testing
- Participate in design reviews and address risks or manufacturability concerns
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Product teams
- Recommend cost-effective and standardized design improvements
- Drive continuous improvement across products and processes
Required Skills & Technical Expertise
- Strong background in mechanism design and vehicle system engineering
- Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, and MS Office
- Knowledge of sheet metal, structural design, welding, closures, and suspension systems
- Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, DFA/DFM, and basic FEA
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3 years of experience in automotive or vehicle engineering
- Experience with mechanism design, steel/aluminum components, and dimensional management
- Prototype build or launch experience preferred
