Position Overview
The Rigger (J1–J4) is responsible for safely setting up, inspecting, and operating rigging gear used to lift, move, and position heavy materials, equipment, and structures. This role supports ship repair, industrial maintenance, and construction operations in compliance with safety and quality standards. The position level (J1–J4) will be determined based on experience, skill, and certification level.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and inspect rigging equipment, including slings, shackles, cables, chains, and hoisting devices.
- Determine the safest and most efficient rigging methods for each lift.
- Signal and direct crane operators and other personnel involved in lifting operations.
- Secure loads using appropriate rigging techniques and ensure balance and stability.
- Work with blueprints, sketches, and lifting plans to determine rigging requirements.
- Conduct pre-lift safety checks and ensure compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and company standards.
- Follow all safety protocols and participate in job safety meetings.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proven experience in rigging or heavy lift operations (shipyard or industrial setting preferred).
- Understanding of hand signals, lifting angles, and load calculations.
- Knowledge of OSHA and NAVSEA safety regulations.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor safely.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.50 - $29.00 per hour
