Role Description This full-time, on-site Paramedic role is based at the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System in Fayetteville, NC. The Paramedic provides emergency and urgent pre-hospital and in-facility care to Veterans, including rapid assessment, triage, and stabilization of patients with acute medical or traumatic conditions. Daily responsibilities include performing advanced life support procedures within scope of practice, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and operating emergency medical equipment. The Paramedic collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff, communicates patient status clearly, and assists with patient transport, handoffs, and documentation in accordance with VA policies and regulatory standards. The role also involves maintaining equipment readiness, participating in drills and training, and supporting a culture of safety, respect, and continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications
- Current state Paramedic licensure (or eligibility), National Registry certification preferred, and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Demonstrated emergency medical skills, including patient assessment, triage, airway management, IV/IO access, medication administration, cardiac monitoring, and use of defibrillators and other life support equipment.
- Experience working in pre-hospital, emergency department, or critical care settings, with the ability to function effectively in high-pressure and rapidly changing clinical environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate respectfully with multidisciplinary staff and interact compassionately with a diverse Veteran population and their families.
- Solid documentation and organizational skills, including accurate charting in electronic health records, adherence to protocols, and attention to detail in reporting and follow-up.
- Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting, transferring, and positioning patients, and working varied shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Knowledge of infection control, patient privacy, and safety practices; experience in a federal, military, or VA health care environment is beneficial.
