Overview
The Facilities & Maintenance Assistant supports the daily operations of Fayetteville Montessori School by helping ensure that the buildings, classrooms, playgrounds, and grounds are clean, safe, and well maintained. This early-morning position plays a key role in preparing campus for student arrival each day. The ideal candidate is proactive, dependable, and willing to assist in a wide range of maintenance and custodial tasks. This position has the potential to grow into a full-time role in the future
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with the Facilities & Campus Experience Coordinator to complete maintenance, cleaning, and repair requests in a timely manner.
Opens campus buildings each morning, checking for any maintenance or safety issues that require attention before students arrive.
Performs daily walk-throughs of buildings and playgrounds to identify and report any hazards, maintenance needs, or supply shortages.
Supports general upkeep of facilities, including:
Cleaning and Janitorial Duties: Sweeping, mopping, restroom upkeep, classroom tidying, trash collection, and replenishing supplies.
Grounds & Playgrounds: Blowing walkways, picking up debris, inspecting gates and fences, maintaining playground surfaces, and assisting with minor landscaping tasks.
Repairs: Light carpentry, replacing ceiling tiles or light bulbs, minor plumbing or electrical fixes, and basic furniture or equipment repair.
Safety Checks: Ensures doors and gates are secured, pathways are clear, and fire and life safety systems are unobstructed.
Assists with special projects such as painting, small renovations, or event setup/cleanup.
Coordinates with vendors and contractors as needed for larger maintenance work.
Monitors maintenance supplies and communicates restocking needs to the Facilities Coordinator.
Provides flexible support during inclement weather or unexpected campus needs (e.g., storm cleanup, emergency maintenance).

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The Facilities & Maintenance Assistant can expect to:
Work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
Climb ladders, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
Stand or walk for prolonged periods.
Begin work early in the morning to prepare the campus for daily operations.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
General maintenance, janitorial, or facilities experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work a plus.
Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment safely.
