JOB DESCRIPTION – Technology Support Specialist III

JOB SUMMARY

 

Provide advanced on-site and phone support to users requiring technical assistance, and train users in functions and operations of computers and software. Install computer hardware and software.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Provide advanced on-site and telephone support for users of hardware and software.
  • Install Windows PCs, Chromebooks, and iPads, including applicable peripherals, software, and apps.
  • Manage district technology hardware, groups, and accounts using Active Directory, Group Policy, and Mobile Device Management solutions.
  • Conduct and document in-depth problem-solving research.
  • Develop, test, and install new software programs and updates
  • Document and review troubleshooting steps and solutions in the Help Desk ticket system.
  • Diagnose hardware problems and replace components as needed.
  • Develop and conduct training for use of district technology hardware and software with individuals and small groups.
  • Evaluate needs of user departments and recommend hardware and software solutions.
  • Diagnose complex hardware problems and replace components as needed.
  • Diagnose network and related issues and make repairs as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate in more than one language or the willingness to learn to communicate in more than one language at the novice level of proficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

 

  • KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Advanced operation of Windows PCs, Chromebooks, and iPads, and related peripherals.
  • Advanced operation of software applications used by students, teachers, and staff.
  • Installation and maintenance of computer hardware, peripherals, and software.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Manual instructions, sufficient to enable quick and accurate diagnosis of difficulties. Technical aspects of the field of specialty.
  • Principles of technical writing.
  • Public speaking techniques.
  • ABILITY TO:
  • Install computer hardware and software.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute training programs in the use of PCs, Chromebooks, iPads, wireless access points, copiers, printers, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Provide assistance and technical knowledge of various software applications.
  • Develop and present training sessions on the operation of computer hardware and software applications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently on tasks as well as part of a team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate supplemented by coursework in microcomputers and software applications
  • Five years of microcomputer and software operations and installation experience.
  • Associate’s degree in computer information systems, networking technology, or a related field (preferred)

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights, up to 30 pounds
