What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator I - Road Department position at Fayette Chamber of Commerce (GA)?
This is a full-time position with benefits. This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy and light equipment as a member of a crew that specializes in laying asphalt, grading operations, drainage construction/maintenance or other public works crew operations involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads and public properties. This position is subject to be included in the off-hours on-call response service.

Asphalt Paving Operations
- Participates in asphalt paving operations;
- Work involves operating pickup trucks and various equipment commonly associated with asphalt paving operations, including but not limited to the following: pavement roller, skid steer, and power broom;
- Significant use of hand tools, such as pavement saw, shovel and asphalt lutes;
- Asphalt roadway patching;
- Flags traffic;
- Installs and maintains traffic control devices;
- Maintains assigned equipment and tools;
- Assists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of road signs;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Work involves operating pickup trucks and various equipment commonly associated with grading and maintenance projects, including but not limited to the following: hay blower, weedeaters, hydroseeder, soil and road base rollers, mowers, tractors with various implements, skid steer, power broom;
- Uses hand tools, such as shovels, chain saws, weed trimmers, cutoff saws, concrete saws and bush axe;
- Grading, repair and maintenance projects;
- Roadside mowing;
- Assists with the installation of storm drainpipes and culverts;
- Flags traffic;
- Installs and maintains traffic control devices;
- Maintains assigned equipment and tools;
- Assists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of road signs;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Operates mowing tractors, including boom mowers, side mowers, batwing mowers, and bush hogs.
- Flags traffic.
- Operates chipper, chain saws, and pole saws.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
- Possession of a valid Class C driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.
- Possession of GDOT approved traffic flagging certification within nine (9) months from the date of hire or promotion.
