QUALITY ENGINEER
DEPARTMENT: Quality
REPORTS TO: Quality Manager
PURPOSE: The Quality Engineer takes a leadership role in defining and driving quality both at the product level and the process level. The Quality Engineer supports Program Management and Engineering to ensure the quality function is deployed for all customer programs, and monitors customer metrics to meet customer satisfaction expectations. The QE also supports the on-going development and improvement of the quality management system.

The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud when on the shop floor. This position also has a role in a professional office environment which routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The QE also supports the on-going development and improvement of the quality management system.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate activities relative to new product introduction including new product launch, quality inspection and statistical capability studies, measurement methods, risk analysis, and product submissions to customers while meeting goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This includes supplier identification, selection, qualification and monitoring
- Ensure quality system requirements have been determined and met for customers. Be knowledgeable and adhere to quality system requirements
- Monitor and review all customer quality and delivery metrics
- Facilitate the development of CMM programs and the layout of parts for inspectors
- Train production employees to use quality inspection tools and proper quality inspection methods and techniques.
- Drive permanent resolution of manufacturing issues (PPM rejects) and customer issues
- Work closely with the manufacturing and suppliers to identify problems, initiate containment, drive to root cause, and implement sustainable corrective action
- Use Lean / Six Sigma tools and approaches to implement projects improving customer satisfaction while eliminating waste and reducing variation in production processing and measurement methodology
- Assist Engineering in achieving and sustaining process capability
- Assist in the implementation of 5S in work cells
- Maintain visual standards for the work area including gage benches and the control of nonconforming material
- Work with suppliers and third party resources as needed to rework defective parts, lead inspections, and ensure proper deviation procedures are followed
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college, or a minimum of 4 years’ experience in Quality related functions with a progressive history of increased responsibility, particularly in the areas of product / process quality management
- Demonstrated process development and problem solving through the creation and application of quality control tools (FMEA, control plan, process map, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects concurrently within a team environment
- Knowledge of machining, assembly, NDT, Metrology, Auditing, Root cause analysis
- Experience working directly with external customers and suppliers
- Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt
- Project / Program Management experience
- Demonstrated ability to excel in all customer service areas
- Responsible and accountable for meeting customer/business needs
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
