Bring your passion for curating healthy garden spaces to serve as a Spray Technician with our thriving Maintenance Department. In this role, you will utilize your skills in chemical application to apply herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers. You will be responsible for upholding our Integrated Pest Management strategies to ensure we continue to foster lush, healthy landscapes across the Birmingham area. - Mathematical skills to accurately calculate the time and materials for each project
- Computer and technological skills which allow for the usage of digital platforms to conduct Quality Control reports and to communicate with staff and clients. Demonstrate competence with Microsoft Office Suite, various Google applications, and our landscape software program (Landscape Management Network, LMN)
Responsibilities of the role:
- Identify weeds and diagnose plant diseases and problems
- Calibrate sprayers and spreaders in a range of sizes from backpack to a 200-gallon tank. Select and mix the appropriate chemicals for each application.
- Accurately complete all work orders. Utilize our landscape management software to follow the assigned daily schedule of property visits and particular chemical application needs.
- While on each property, conduct a brief survey to assess the overall health of the landscape. Pull soil samples, as needed. Provide additional applications of materials based on the problem identified.
- Maintain complete and accurate records, including work performed, chemical usage, equipment repair and maintenance, inventory of chemicals and fertilizers, and more
- Ensure the safe use of all tools and equipment, performing routine maintenance checks, identifying and reporting malfunctions. Wear appropriate PPE (i.e., mask, gloves, long-sleeves)
- Regularly service and clean all tools and equipment according to specifications
- Under the guidance of the Department Manager, keep all chemicals organized, labeled, and maintained in the designated storage area. Maintain appropriate back stock. Also in collaboration with the Department Manager, participate in the early order program, which occurs in January and allows us to stock up on insecticides, fungicides, preemergents, ant baits, hornet and wasp sprays, tank cleaners, fertilizers, and more.
Qualifications we require:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Proficiency in English in both oral and written forms
- Possess a full range of mobility in upper and lower body
- Ability to interact with clients in a professional and courteous manner
- Pass a background check, motor vehicle report, and drug screening as part of the standard prescreening process
- Ability to access and navigate our bulk yard, loading areas, office space, and other aspects of our facilities
and jobsites - Strength, stamina, and mobility to perform physical work outdoors, especially during hot and cold weather conditions. Ability to lift 80 pounds without assistance.
