Summary

Serves as the TC Mental Health program lead Psychotherapist and Supervisor, guiding the clinical interventions of an Associate Therapist, Interns placed on site, and other related team members. Must have experience in early childhood, adolescent development, and family therapy, and serve as the subject-matter consultant to ensure child/youth services and programs are therapeutically sound, trauma-informed, and client-centered. Must have a growth mindset, practice principles of family-program collaboration, work closely with TC leadership, be comfortable as a community mental health practitioner in the milieu, and be part of a transdisciplinary team.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the clinical services for children, youth, and families, facilitating early childhood interventions and overseeing the Youth Mental Health Initiative.
  • Facilitates students’ internships with partner universities, serves as Task Supervisor to Alliant International University students, and/or as Field Supervisor to SDSU students placed at TC. Engages, supports, and retains high-performing, accountable interns. 
  • Supervises an Associate Therapist, oversees training; assigns tasks, caseloads, monitors performance, and provides evaluations; facilitates milieu therapy, and promotes a transdisciplinary approach to services.   
  • Uses expertise to deliver mental health services to clients with social-emotional, psychological, and behavioral health conditions and/or trauma histories, engaging those who may be resistant to therapeutic services.
  • Provides and coordinates direct clinical services, including psychoeducation, crisis interventions, parenting classes, and various psychotherapy modalities to clients of all ages focused on child and youth development.
  • Maintains a caseload of individual or family clients, assessing, diagnosing, and developing treatment plans.
  • Provides classroom observations and therapeutic recommendations to staff for implementation in the classroom.
  • Engages youth in a compassionate, non-judgmental approach through support groups, building community, and a sense of empowerment.
  • Provides clinical perspective/guidance to TC’s Child Development Specialists. Works closely with TC leadership to ensure appropriate service delivery. Actively collaborates with Residential Services staff and Family Case Managers in their work with children and families.
  • Communicates regularly with the Director of Social Services concerning department, programs, and client issues.
  • Partners with Father Joe’s Villages’ Behavioral Health clinic to facilitate clients’ service delivery and make appropriate referrals.
  • Documents each patient’s visit in the electronic health record, reviews the Associate Therapist and Interns’ charts, and monitors data and outcomes.
  • Supports the hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of interns and staff. Update community mental health program policies and procedures and recommend best practices.   
  • Lead Multidisciplinary child-focused meetings; attends staff meetings. Delivers professional development in related areas when available.
  • Maintains knowledge in the field by attending professional development courses throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Professional Clinical Counseling, or Social Work (with experience in child and adolescent development and family therapy).
  • Certified and licensed to practice in California. The license must be in good standing.
  • Expertise in evidence-based therapies (e.g., ERP, CBT, ACT).
  • Clinical knowledge of substance abuse, mental health, trauma-informed care, and systemic understanding of homelessness.
  • Ability to supervise students in field practice.
  • At least 5 years of experience providing direct clinical services, and at least 3 years of experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Leadership experience, organizing abilities, excellent communicator and collaborator, and good with time management.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a MUST.
  • User of MS Office.
  • Ability to pass fingerprinting and background checks upon employment.
  • Annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other screenings when necessary.

The Pay Rate for this role is based on several factors including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The initial offer usually falls between the minimum and midpoint of the applicable salary range. Pay Band E7: $90,100 - $132,00 (Midpoint $108,315)
