What are the responsibilities and job description for the Money Laundering Reporting Officer position at FasterPay?
The MLRO reports to the Board of Directors (BoD) within the Company’s second line of defense (2LOD). The MLRO will act as the focal point for all anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) activity within the firm, ensuring compliance with applicable U.S. laws, regulations, and industry guidance.
As the MLRO, you will serve as the firm’s designated AML Officer under U.S. AML legislation, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related federal regulations. You will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the business from money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions violations, and other financial crime risks.
As a senior manager, you will have ultimate responsibility for overseeing the firm’s AML/CTF compliance framework, including:
Goals for duration of the tenure
1. Regulatory Oversight & Reporting
- Ensure 100% timely and accurate filing of all SARs, NMLS filing, and other regulatory reports.
- Maintain effective liaison with regulators (FinCEN, State Regulators, etc.), ensuring queries and requests are responded to within agreed timelines.
- Act as a reliable nominated officer, with clearly documented processes for SAR handling.
2. Governance & Risk Management
- Keep the firm’s AML/CTF and sanctions policies up to date, fully aligned with the Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act, FATF standards, other decrees and emerging risks.
- Conduct and document the Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA) annually (or when material changes occur).
- Participate in the regulatory horizon scanning process to identify and communicate relevant changes in law/regulation within 90 days of publication.
- Deliver a quarterly and annual MLRO report to the Board with clear metrics on financial crime risk management and areas for remediation.
- Participate in State, Regulatory, Partner Bank audits
3. Transaction Monitoring & Investigations
- Ensure the effectiveness of transaction monitoring systems (including sanctions and PEP screening) through regular testing, tuning, and review.
- Investigate and resolve ISARs within 30 days
- Maintain comprehensive investigation records that meet audit and regulatory standards.
4. Training & Awareness
- Deliver mandatory AML/CTF and sanctions training to 100% of staff annually, with tracking of completion and effectiveness.
- Increase staff awareness of suspicious activity reporting, measured through internal SAR submissions and training feedback scores.
- Foster a compliance-first culture, tracked through staff surveys and monitoring of policy breaches.
5. Audit & Assurance
- Ensure audit readiness at all times by maintaining documentation, audit trails, and evidence of compliance activities.
- Successfully manage external audits/regulatory inspections with no major findings or with all findings remediated within agreed deadlines.
- Track and report remediation progress to the Board and regulators.
6. Team Leadership
- Build and lead a competent compliance/AML team by setting individual KPIs, development plans, and conducting regular performance reviews.
- Ensure resource allocation is sufficient to meet monitoring and reporting obligations.
- Foster a collaborative second line of defence, working closely with business and first line teams.
Who Should Apply
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law, Finance, Business, or related fields.
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in AML/CTF, compliance, or financial crime prevention.
- Prior experience as an MLRO or senior AML/Compliance manager within financial services or fintech.
- Recognised compliance qualifications such as CAMS, or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Familiarity with the fintech ecosystem: PSPs, digital wallets, merchant tools, or compliance platforms
- No restrictions on business travel.
