The Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology seeks a dedicated professional with demonstrated expertise in advanced knitting and textile technology. The successful candidate will possess expertise in applied knitting applications, including warp and weft knitting, with proficiency in the use and maintenance, and programming of knitting equipment and machinery.

The full-time faculty position will support the Textile Development and Marketing department, with responsibilities for teaching both core and advanced knitting courses in textile science and technology, including the advancement of bio-materials. Emphasis will be placed on practical instruction with a forward focus on innovation and development of functional knit fabrics for applications in fashion, athletic, medical, military, and industrial sectors.

A strong awareness of emerging trends in sustainable textile practices is essential. Additional desirable qualifications include knowledge of the textile supply chain, product and project management, and global marketing strategies.

The new faculty member will play a key role in supporting the school and department's strategic initiatives, developing curriculum, and maintaining operations within the department's textile lab facilities. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, promoting the academic programs, engaging with alumni, industry, and building and sustaining partnerships. The new faculty member will serve on department, school, and college-wide committees, support accreditation, and participate in administrative duties as required.

  • Working experience and understanding of the global supply chain process. focused in the textile product categories while embracing the use of sustainability as part of the learning process.
  • Experience working with people from various cultural, racial, ethnic, religious and social groups that will support the education of all students.

  • Implements an academically rigorous and interesting experience integrating professional practice with classroom learning.
  • Adapts the curriculum in response to industry needs.

Learning Enrichment

  • Embraces new forms of pedagogy (online teaching, blended classes, experiential learning).
  • Takes advantage of the Textile Development and Marketing laboratory facilities, including connecting academic assets to industry opportunities.
  • Identifies networking opportunities between industry professionals and the students through field trips, internships, seminars, and industry events.

Professionalism

  • Creates and maintains a network of alumni and industry experts who can be called upon as resources for course and curriculum development, focus groups, guest speakers, internships and placement opportunities for students.
  • Aggressively develops research programs that benefit the college academically and financially.
  • Demonstrates active engagement in the profession and in scholarly or creative expression.

Technology

  • Demonstrates effective use of technology and electronic information to deliver course material and learning experiences to students.
  • Demonstrates effective use of knitting equipment such as Stoll and Brother knitting equipment.
  • Understands and can manage new industry technologies related to the field of knitted textiles.
  • Is familiar with professional written, oral, visual and technological presentation standards.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in textile technology, textile biomaterials, textile science, textile engineering or related fields. Preference will be given to candidates who have a knitting portfolio.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant industry experience in the knitting field is preferred. Will need to obtain a master's degree within 4 years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in textile technology, textile biomaterials, textile science, textile engineering or related fields.

Salary

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules pgs. 73-74.

Instructor: $69,346.37 - $80,793.82

Assistant Professor: $80,736.40 - $118,984.88

Associate Professor: $94,498.31 - $142,271.78

Professor: $115,232.32 - $173,403.37

The College reserves the right to select one or more candidates after having been duly reviewed and presented to the President in conformance with the provisions of Article 15 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Physical Requirements And Work Environment

The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
