Position Summary:
The Pool Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of the Farmstead Pool & Racquet Club (FSRC) and lifeguards from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, working approximately 35 hours per week on a flexible schedule during operating hours with some flexible, mostly remote, pre-season planning and opening activities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, enforcing policies and procedures which ensure effective operations of pool facilities including managing staff budget, personnel management and training. Duties involve all swimming pool operations, including first aid, rotations, scheduling of staff, janitorial duties, pool maintenance (including daily chemical analysis/testing, pool cleaning, filter backwashing), cleaning of bathrooms and concession stand area, swim lessons, water aerobics and all other duties as necessary or required. This employee should have excellent organizational, communication, and public relations skills.
Education & Experience:
Candidates with knowledge in pool management operations preferred. Training equivalent to high school diploma required. General management experience preferred. Must have Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR & First Aid Certification and knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws, codes and regulations.

This employee should have the ability to provide instructions to employees under his/her supervision and also have excellent organization skills, public relations, and oral & written communication skills. This employee must be able to count money and change correctly.

This employee encounters problems, questions and concerns from the general public and customers who may be dissatisfied with the policies and procedures.
Decision Making:
This employee makes decisions concerning employee scheduling, supplies needed, discipline of staff and customers, prioritizing daily work assignments, and performing daily duties in an effective manner.

This employee is responsible for limited budgetary control of the department.
Public Relations:
This employee will have daily contact with the general public, co-workers, and Street Superintendent.
Working Conditions:
Manual labor is required. Weather conditions and working closely with chemicals are a factor in this position.
Physical Requirements:
Physical exertions include the ability to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects. Also includes climbing in and out of the swimming pool and up & down ladders. Employee should have the ability to express or exchange by means of verbal and written communication & convey detailed or important instructions to other employees and the general public.
Examples of Work (Essential Functions):
Preseason activity (about 5 hours in February and March, 20 hours in April and May, mostly remote):
· Meet with the FSRC Board of Directors 4-6 times throughout the year.
· Be involved with activity and program scheduling with the FSRC Board of Directors. (February)
· Interview and hire all staff, order uniforms. (March)
· Be involved with opening activities (managed by Operations Board Member).
· Manage staff and service providers to clean and prepare the pool, office, locker rooms, and facilities for the season opening. (May)
During the swim season (Memorial Day weekend – Labor Day), the Pool Manager will:
· Be present and accessible at the pool approximately 35 hours per week during operating hours.
· Prepare all work schedules for staff making sure either a manager or assistant manager is always “on duty” while the pool is open.
· Maintain lifeguard rotations and breaks.
· Supervise all staff by enforcing staff policies & rules and set a positive example for the staff to follow.
· Hold safety meetings for all employees and weekly guard training.
· Maintain a clean facility by delegating duties to the staff; including, but not limited to, bathrooms, trash collection (inside and outside the facility), and vacuuming of the pool as needed.
· Ensure proper operating conditions of all equipment and report any maintenance problems to the Operations Board Member
· Manage and document operations. Perform maintenance including: daily chemical analysis/testing, pool cleaning, filter backwashing. (Operations Board Member and service professionals manage/maintain equipment and mechanicals.)
· Handle and document first aid problems.
· Document all disciplinary issues or incidents to the club Executive Board.
· Manage staff for all safety (lifeguards, membership sign-in), cleaning and presentation of the pool, pavilion, grill and picnic areas and locker rooms, etc.
· Perform some bookkeeping responsibilities regarding scheduling, payroll, concessions, and balancing of cash drawer; accurately complete deposit slips and make bank drops
· Manage pool rentals and guest access.
· Assist with social events and activities as needed (social events are coordinated by member volunteers).
· Update the FRSC calendar.
· Enforce Club Pool Policies.
· Maintain positive public relations. Communicate via text and email with members and the FRSC Board of Directors.
· Inform the FSRC Board of Directors of all member suggestions, questions, complaints, all safety issues, and responses.
· Supervise end-of-season maintenance and closing activity.
· Note swimming hours change (decrease) weekdays when school is in session.
Post-season activity:
· Provide a summary of the season’s operations with any suggestions and advice for improvements. (September)
