Position: Accelerated Learning/Gifted and Talented Coordinator
Reports To: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Length of Contract: 190 days
Duties include coordinating instruction for children in the Accelerated Learning Program/Gifted and Talented Program, assisting teachers with enrichment strategies and activities, and assisting with assessments and other duties as assigned. This program requires staff to assist with many after-school and weekend activities, allowing children to participate in both regional and statewide competitions.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide leadership, coordination, and instructional support for the district’s Accelerated Learning/Gifted and Talented (GT) Program. The Coordinator ensures compliance with Arkansas GT Program Approval Standards while supporting advanced learners through a flexible service model that includes STEAM, EAST, cluster grouping, consultant teacher, and advanced learning pathways.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Valid Arkansas teaching license with Gifted & Talented (K–12)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of gifted education and differentiated instruction
Understanding of curriculum development and instructional strategies
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
Experience:
Arkansas license required, GT license preferred/or willingness to obtain. At least 3 years of certified teaching experience is preferred.
The Superintendent may approve alternatives to the above qualifications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Coordination and Compliance
Plan, develop, and implement the district Accelerated Learning (GT) program
Ensure compliance with Arkansas GT requirements, including 150 minutes/week of services for identified students in grades 3-6
Maintain all required documentation, reports, and records
Conduct program evaluation and recommend improvements
Identification and Assessment
Coordinate GT screening, referral, and placement processes
Ensure use of multiple criteria for identification
Serve on or facilitate the district identification committee
Maintain accurate student records and communicate placement decisions
Instructional Support and Service Delivery
Support delivery of Accelerated Learning/GT services through:
Provide direct instruction to identified GT students as assigned
Whole-group STEAM enrichment opportunities (K–2)
Cluster grouping, differentiated instruction, and consultant teacher support integrated with STEAM and EAST opportunities (Grade 3)
EAST integration, project-based learning, enrichment opportunities, and direct services (Grades 4–6)
Advanced coursework and accelerated learning pathways (Grades 7–8)
Serve as a consultant to teachers by:
developing and providing enrichment and extension resources
modeling instructional strategies
supporting differentiation in the classroom
Collaboration and Professional Development
Work collaboratively with principals, teachers, and district leadership
Provide professional development related to gifted learners and instructional strategies
Support teachers in implementing differentiation and documenting services
Collaborate with secondary counselors and administrators to support student access to accelerated coursework and advanced learning pathways.
Student Support and Communication
Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents
Support student participation in enrichment opportunities, competitions, and advanced learning experiences
Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress and program opportunities
Additional Duties
Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and district initiatives
Assist with after-school or extended learning opportunities as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction
