What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Mechanic position at Farmers Win Coop?
Job Summary:
The Shop is responsible for maintaining and repairing Farmers Win Coop’s fleet and equipment, including both gas and diesel-powered units.
The Shop will ensure all equipment is safe, reliable, and compliant with DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on FWC vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair gas and diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components.
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure all units meet or exceed DOT compliance before being returned to service.
- Install and service tires and fabricate hydraulic hoses as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records for all fleet equipment.
- Make cost-effective repair and maintenance recommendations to management.
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe at all times.
- Manage inventory efficiently and purchase parts from approved vendors at the best value.
- Respond to service calls and perform field repairs on downed units.
- Complete additional tasks or duties as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing in a physically demanding environment.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to use hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Must be able to enter, exit, and operate vehicles and machinery safely.
- Tolerance for exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and mechanical hazards.
Qualifications:
- Experience in diesel and gas engine repair.
- Certification or ability to perform DOT inspections.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
Other Duties:
The Shop will uphold cooperative policies, perform other duties as assigned by management, and will enforce and uphold the cooperative’s credit policy.
