Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician/Feed Mill Operator is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on company-owned equipment, machinery, semi-trucks, tandem trucks and occasionally help mix Feed and help in the Warehouse. Weekly hours average around 50 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on company equipment, machinery, semi-trucks, and tandem trucks, for instance changing oil, changing brakes, greasing equipment such as Grain Legs and Mixer equipment, change out bearings and run the Corn Dryer in the fall season.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure all repairs meet company safety standards and applicable DOT regulations for commercial vehicles.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Operate feed mill equipment, including grinders, mixers, conveyors, augers, and load-out systems.
  • Receive, inspect, and unload incoming grain, ingredients, and other feed materials.
  • Mix feed according to prescribed formulations and production schedules.
  • Load finished feed into trucks, trailers, bins, or storage systems for delivery.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on feed mill equipment.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate production records, inventory logs, and feed batch documentation.
  • Ensure feed quality by following established procedures and quality control standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the feed mill, storage bins, and surrounding work areas.
  • Follow all company safety policies, biosecurity procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Assist with loading bagged feed onto Customer’s vehicles

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience maintaining heavy equipment, semi-trucks, tandem trucks, or commercial vehicles.
  • Previous experience in feed manufacturing, grain handling, agriculture, or industrial production is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air brake systems, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred
  • Forklift experience is preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varying weather and shop conditions.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with welding and fabrication.
  • Experience with computerized feed batching or automated feed mill systems.
  • Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and compliance standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Work in dusty, noisy, and varying temperature environments.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and shop machinery.

Work Environment

This position requires working in both shop and field environments as well as in the feed manufacturing facility where employees are exposed to grain dust, machinery, noise, and changing environmental conditions
