Folkland Foods is a fast-growing manufacturer of premium frozen potato products, specializing in organic, high-quality french fries and private label solutions. As we continue to scale production and expand our customer base, we are seeking a Quality Control Manager to lead and strengthen our food safety and quality systems.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a startup-style environment where you will have the opportunity to build, improve, and own quality systems that directly impact our success.
Position Summary
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all quality assurance and food safety programs at Folkland Foods. This role ensures compliance with SQF, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications while driving continuous improvement in product quality and plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & Compliance
- Lead and maintain the plant’s SQF certification and food safety systems
- Serve as the SQF Practitioner and primary point of contact for audits
- Ensure compliance with USDA Organic, FDA, and customer requirements
- Manage internal audits, third-party audits, and corrective actions
Quality Systems & Documentation
- Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, HACCP plans, and prerequisite programs
- Oversee document control and ensure records are audit-ready at all times
- Manage specifications, COAs, and customer requirements
Production Quality Oversight
- Monitor in-process and finished product quality (e.g., color, texture, defects, sizing)
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues
- Partner with operations to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance consistency
Laboratory & Testing
- Oversee microbiological and environmental testing programs
- Review and interpret lab results (e.g., APC, yeast/mold, pathogens)
- Ensure proper sampling procedures and test frequency
Team Leadership
- Train and develop QC technicians and production staff on food safety and quality standards
- Foster a strong food safety culture across all departments
- Lead quality-related meetings and communication with cross-functional teams
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce defects, and enhance product quality
- Support new product development and commercialization efforts
- Drive initiatives related to waste reduction and operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field (preferred)
- 5 years of experience in food manufacturing quality/food safety
- Strong knowledge of SQF, HACCP, GMPs, and regulatory requirements
- Experience in frozen foods or potato processing is a plus
- Proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
