Overall Job Function:
At Farmers Coop Society, we take pride in serving our local communities, farmers, and contractors with dependable products and trusted service. The Lumber Yard Foreman plays a key role in leading daily yard operations, supporting customers, and developing a strong, safety-focused team.
This hands-on leadership position is responsible for keeping the yard running efficiently, ensuring accurate material handling, and delivering the level of service our customers have come to expect from How to Build Center Lumber Yard.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee daily operations of the lumber yard, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
Coordinate loading/unloading of lumber and building materials for customers and deliveries.
Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible yard layout.
Work alongside the team to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
Lead, coach, and support yard team members in daily tasks.
Set clear expectations for performance, safety, and customer service.
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
Build a positive, team-oriented work environment aligned with FCS values.
Provide friendly, knowledgeable service to contractors, farmers, and homeowners.
Assist customers with product selection and order accuracy.
Ensure fast, safe, and professional loading of materials.
Resolve customer concerns with a solutions-focused approach.
Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering materials.
Conduct regular cycle counts and ensure inventory accuracy.
Inspect incoming shipments for quality and correctness.
Minimize product loss and damage through proper handling and storage.
Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety.
Ensure proper use of forklifts, loaders, and yard equipment.
Conduct safety training and daily awareness with the team.
Maintain compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Oversee routine maintenance of yard equipment and vehicles.
Keep the yard and storage areas in excellent condition.
Coordinate repairs and communicate equipment needs.
Assist with deliveries.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
2–4 years of experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or building materials setting.
Supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
Forklift operation experience required; certification referred.
Strong knowledge of lumber and building materials.
Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
Ability to safely operate delivery vehicles and handle heavy materials.

Work Requirements:
This position is based in a fast-paced agricultural setting and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employees are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally may be loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized according to safety standards. Typical working hours are based on customer and organizational demand; hours may be long, irregular and include weekends and holidays during peak season.
While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and hear most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and sitting, while also needing to reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally and maneuver on and off mobile equipment. The physicality of this job is high.
