General Description:
The Loan Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to loan officers and customers. This position is accountable for preparation and review of all loan documentation for new and renewed consumer and commercial loans in a timely and efficient manner. Instrumental in ensuring careful management of loan portfolio by providing assistance in reviewing portfolio and advising lender of upcoming renewals and other issues. Provides coaching and training to entry level Loan Assistants. Assists with portfolios consisting of primarily large, commercial loans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support for Loan Officers, including answering and returning phone calls, scheduling meetings and conferences, faxing documents, making copies, filing, etc. Load pre-qualification applications. Take loan applications and compile any missing data on same, i.e., log number, address, plan type, incentive, and delivery time. Assist with loan origination, including gathering and reviewing credit documentation to ensure the loan file is prepared for processing and ordering any third-party items, such as credit reports, appraisals, flood certifications, title insurance, etc., as required. Track technical exceptions, financial statements, insurance, etc., necessary to close a loan.
Ensure all loan documents meet current compliance and policy requirements before forwarding necessary documents for filing in credit and/or collateral files. Prepare and maintain loan files from application to closing in a timely manner. Follow up with clients at all times, keeping them informed of the loan process. Follow-up on outstanding loan documentation/verification. Prepare daily and weekly reports, including past due reports and matured loan reports. Assist in the portfolio review for maturities; prepare extensions on maturing loans. Provide assistance to customers concerning inquiries, problems and complaints. Resolve issues with current loans.
Within authority granted by lender, prepare and process renewals. Check overdrafts; if present, process draws to cover or discuss with lender if needed. Transfer loan payments. Assist in coaching and training new loan assistants, including over-seeing that loan documents are prepared and processed correctly.
Education and Experience:
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.
Experience:
5 years related experience and/or training.
Additional Information:
Must deliver Service with HEART to all customers, both internal and external. Must maintain confidentiality of customer and bank information at all times. Must have strong attention to detail and accuracy and be able to work independently. Must be able to cross-train for other positions.
