What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Planner position at Farmer Brothers?
The Maintenance Planner reports to the Maintenance Manager and builds and sustains plant maintenance work-management practices. The position administers CMMS workflows, plans maintenance, reports PM performance, manages day-to-day MRO inventory, and coordinates Maintenance and Engineering vendor setup and purchase orders.

Develop and document CMMS standards with the Maintenance Manager for work request, planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout

Maintain accurate assets, PMs, job plans, work orders, parts, labor, and equipment history.

Improve data quality and train users on approved workflows

Prepare job plans and schedules with required labor, parts, and production access.

Maintain a ready backlog and coordinate weekly priorities with the Maintenance Manager, Production, and Engineering

Measure and communicate PM and schedule compliance; follow up on overdue work and escalate misses or barriers to the Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance Manager retains responsibility for technician performance, coaching, and corrective action

Own day-to-day warehouse organization, labeling, transactions, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy

Maintain part records, locations, lead times, min/max levels, critical spares, receipts, issues, and returns

Recommend major stocking, obsolescence, write-off, and financial changes for management approval

Coordinate vendor-setup documentation and approvals for Maintenance and Engineering.

Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders within established approval requirements; track orders, receipts, discrepancies, and invoices

The role does not own strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, or final purchasing approval.

Report PM and schedule compliance, backlog, planned versus reactive work, work-order quality, inventory accuracy, stockouts, and purchasing activity

Use equipment and cost data to support root-cause analysis, PM optimization, and reliability improvements

Prioritize safety, food safety, and regulatory requirements

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent (i.e., GED)
-
Minimum three years of maintenance planning, scheduling, CMMS, MRO inventory, or related industrial maintenance experience

Manufacturing or industrial maintenance experience with working knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment
-
Demonstrated experience building or improving maintenance workflows, PM programs, CMMS data, or storeroom controls where processes were not fully established

Hands-on CMMS, MRO inventory, cycle-count, purchase-order, and vendor-coordination experience

Self-directed system builder able to assess an unclear current state and implement practical, sustainable processes with limited training

Strong maintenance planning, job scoping, estimating, materials coordination, prioritization, and schedule-development skills

Ability to measure performance, follow up on commitments, and influence technicians and partners without supervisory authority

Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance, equipment manuals, drawings, bills of material, parts, and safety requirements

Strong organization, data accuracy, follow-through, problem solving, communication, reporting, spreadsheet, and general computer skills

Ability to manage competing priorities, identify risk, escalate appropriately, and work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and contractors

Ability to successfully pass the pre-employment process
Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in office, maintenance shop, storeroom, warehouse, and active manufacturing environments

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and regularly move throughout the facility

Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and access equipment or inventory locations

Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 30 pounds; heavier items may require assistance or material-handling equipment

Ability to frequently use a computer, keyboard, phone, and other standard office equipment

Ability to read equipment labels, parts information, manuals, drawings, computer screens, and other maintenance documentation

Ability to work around operating production equipment and tolerate typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, dust, temperature variation, and moving equipment

Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with plant safety and food-safety requirements
