Overview
Farley Inc. is a family-owned construction and landscape company with over 50 years of experience serving Midcoast Maine. We're currently seeking a skilled, hands-on Earthwork Supervisor to lead excavation and sitework operations in the field.
This is not an office position — our supervisors are experienced equipment operators who lead by example. You'll spend your days on active job sites operating equipment, directing crews, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to spec.
What You'll Do
- Lead and supervise a small crew on residential and commercial earthwork projects
- Operate heavy equipment daily (excavator, loader, dozer, skid steer)
- Perform and oversee grading, trenching, backfilling, loading, hauling, and site prep
- Read and interpret site plans and grade stakes
- Use GPS grade-control equipment and rover to check grades and elevations
- Coordinate site materials, trucking, and logistics to keep projects on schedule
- Communicate with project managers, subcontractors, and clients as needed
- Monitor safety practices and ensure compliance on-site
What We're Looking For
- 3–5 years of heavy-equipment operating experience (required)
- 2–3 years of field-supervision or crew-lead experience (preferred)
- Strong understanding of excavation, grading, drainage, and site-prep best practices
- Ability to read plans, grade stakes, and work with survey/layout teams
- Familiarity with GPS grade control systems and rover setup/operation (preferred)
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other site-layout software (a plus)
- Valid driver's license required (CDL a plus)
- Reliable, professional, and able to lead by example in the field
- This is a hands-on field position — you'll be working on job sites daily
Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8- to 10-hour shifts
- Occasional overtime or Saturday work depending on project needs
- Year-round work — home every night
