What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stationary Engineer position at FAREVA?
POSITION SUMMARY: Operates and maintains stationary equipment such as steam boilers, refrigeration absorption machines (Springdale), Water Treatment Plant Equipment (Morton Grove), air compressor pumps and necessary auxiliary supporting systems as required in accordance with established procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Starts up and operates steam boilers, Water Treatment Plant Equipment (Morton Grove), compressors and auxiliary equipment based on a predetermined schedule. Adjusts operating controls to balance load conditions and to maintain operating efficiency. Detects changes in production, weather or equipment operations and then alters the operation of equipment appropriately to meet demand requirements in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance of Utility Building equipment. Inspects, cleans and lubricates equipment. Performs minor repairs and assists in major repair work.
- Monitors/analyzes/evaluates operations and performs emergency maintenance as required to operate equipment at minimum cost, minimum downtime and at maximum efficiency.
- Monitor gauges, alarms and watch operating equipment to detect malfunctions.
- Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
- Coordinates maintenance and outside vendors to perform replacement and repair of equipment and lines in the power plant vicinity.
- Records boiler, Water Treatment Plant (Morton Grove) and auxiliary equipment operating data for evaluation by the Engineering Department in submitting periodic operating reports to management.
- Follows safety policies and maintains good housekeeping in work area. All work performed must meet all applicable federal, state, and local mandates, as well as comply with all Company rules and policies.
- Cleans boilers, condensers, heat exchangers, filters, separators, and other related equipment used in air, water, steam, and process and product lines.
- Calibrates, troubleshoots, takes and logs readings analyzes and repairs instruments and equipment related to the wastewater plant.
- Monitors and adjusts environmental control systems and cooling water tower chemicals.
- Performs sanitary and storm sewer unclogging and repairing.
- Take lead during breakdowns and coordinate efforts and align resources
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Ability to provide guidance and help train other associates while leading by example.
- Completes asbestos awareness training, recognizes and informs Supervisor of asbestos hazards to ensure sampling or appropriate precautions are performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Education/Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Have either a Class K or NIULPE license or obtain the licenses within three months of starting the position (Morton Grove).
- Must be thoroughly experienced in boiler house equipment.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle pressure and demonstrate flexibility.
- Able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and take initiative on specific issues.
- Ability to prioritize handling of situations.
- Must have a positive attitude.
