What are the responsibilities and job description for the Short-Term Rental Cleaner position at Far Longing Getaways?
Guests decide how they feel about a home in the first thirty seconds after they open the door. You are the reason that feeling is a good one. We run short-term rentals in the Shenandoah Valley, and we're hiring our first in-house cleaner to own the turnover between one guest's check-out and the next guest's check-in.
About us
Far Longing Getaways is a small, owner-run short-term rental business with 10 homes across Luray, Front Royal and Marshall. Our guests come for Shenandoah National Park, the caverns, the wineries and the quiet, and our reviews depend on a home that is spotless and ready when they walk in. This is our first employee, so you'll work directly with the owner and help shape how we do things as we grow.
About the role
Six months from now, you'll be running turnovers on your own across many of our properties. Guests will mention how clean the home was in their 5-star reviews, supplies will never run out mid-stay, and small problems will get caught and reported before a guest ever notices them. As we add properties, this role grows from part-time into full-time hours with promotion opportunities.
What you'll do
- Turn over each home between guests: clean kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living areas to our checklist, within the window between check-out and the next check-in.
- Handle the laundry: wash, dry and fold linens and towels, and make every bed to our standard.
- Restock guest supplies such as toiletries, paper goods, coffee and cleaning products, and tell us when inventory is running low.
- Stage each home so it matches the listing photos, with pillows, towels, and welcome items in place.
- Inspect as you clean. Photograph any damage, missing items, or maintenance issues and send them to the owner the same day.
- Log each turnover in our checklist app Breezeway, with photos of the finished rooms.
- Drive between properties in the Luray, Front Royal, and Marshall area.
What's hard about this job
We'd rather be upfront. Turnovers run on the clock: when the next guests arrive at check-in, the home has to be ready. Weekends and holidays are our busiest days, and that is when you'll work most. The work is physical, with stairs, heavy laundry baskets and hours on your feet. You'll usually work alone, so you have to be your own quality check. If that sounds like a good fit rather than a drawback, we'd love to hear from you.
What we're looking for
Required:
- A valid driver's license and reliable access to a car for driving between properties
- Available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and some holidays
- Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, and to stand, bend, kneel, and climb stairs for several hours
- Able to read checklists and communicate by text and phone in English (ESL Scholarships are available)
- Willing to complete a background check once an offer is made
- Authorized to work in the United States; all employees are E-verified
Nice to have:
- Cleaning experience in hospitality, such as hotel housekeeping, vacation rentals, or Airbnb
- Experience with a turnover or cleaning app such as Turno or Breezeway
No cleaning experience? That's fine. We'll train you on our checklist and standards.
Pay and schedule
- Competitive per-clean compensation
- $18–$22 per hour, based on experience, for any deep cleans, training, or extra tasks
- Mileage reimbursed for driving between properties
- 3–4 turnovers per week to start, with weekends required
- A clear path to full-time hours as we add properties
Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 30.0 per week
Work Location: In person
Salary : $18 - $28
